Pace and speed are inverses

Pace tells how much time each kilometer or mile takes. Speed tells how much distance is covered per hour. Faster movement means a smaller pace number and a larger speed number.

Pace formulas

Convert elapsed time to seconds before dividing. The engine converts all distances to kilometers, then uses the exact international mile definition for the mile display.

Worked 5K example

Twenty-five minutes is 1,500 seconds. Dividing by 5 km gives 300 seconds per kilometer, or 5:00/km. Multiplying by 1.609344 gives about 483 seconds, or 8:03/mile.

Projected finish times

The projection table holds average speed constant across one mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. This is transparent arithmetic rather than a physiological performance model.

Using even splits

An even split repeats the same target pace for each unit. Course elevation and race strategy can justify uneven splits, so the table is a neutral baseline for planning.

Why actual performance differs

Longer efforts usually cannot preserve a short-distance pace. Fatigue, weather, surface, turns, GPS error and stops all matter. Use recent comparable efforts when setting a realistic target.
