Body type calculator for apparel proportions

Enter four level circumference measurements. Calculator24 compares shoulder and hip balance, waist definition and bust proportion, then shows the exact ratios behind one apparel-shape label.

What body shape means here

The label describes relative circumferences for apparel fit. Research on clothing systems uses categories such as hourglass, triangle, inverted triangle and rectangle, while newer scan methods find more detailed shapes.

Classification rules

The heuristic calls shoulders and hips balanced when they differ by no more than 5%. A defined waist is at least 25% smaller than the larger end measurement.

balance difference=|shoulders−hips|÷maxwaist ratio=waist÷max(shoulders,hips)

Worked example

For 38-inch shoulders and hips, balance difference is zero. A 28-inch waist is 73.7% of 38, passing the 75% threshold and producing hourglass in this rule set.

Triangle and inverted triangle

When hips exceed shoulders by more than 5%, the label is triangle. When shoulders exceed hips by more than 5%, it is inverted triangle. Bust is shown separately because garment fit can differ from shoulder balance.

Rectangle and oval

Balanced ends without the waist threshold produce rectangle. When waist approaches or exceeds both shoulder and hip circumference, this implementation uses oval as a descriptive apparel category.

Limits of any body-shape label

Tape placement, posture, soft tissue and three-dimensional contours affect fit. Published research questions the reliability and universality of small category sets across populations; actual garment measurements are more useful for purchase decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Is body type a medical diagnosis?

No. These are apparel-proportion labels.

Do measurements determine what I should wear?

No. Clothing choice is personal; measurements can only help with fit.

Why use shoulder and hip balance?

Traditional apparel categories often describe the relative width or circumference of the upper and lower body.

What if I am near a threshold?

Treat neighboring labels as equally plausible because measurements and rules are approximate.

Does the unit change the label?

No. Ratios remain the same after exact conversion.

Are there more than five shapes?

Yes. Body-scan research uses more detailed schemes; this tool intentionally shows a simple heuristic.

What to keep in mind

Body-shape labels are apparel descriptors, not medical or biological types. They do not determine health, attractiveness, personality or what someone should wear.

Results display up to 8 decimal places; exported numbers preserve calculation precision. This is a calculation summary, not an official certificate.
